The Malaga Film Festival announces the call for applications for MAFF 2023, the coproduction event of the Industry area MAFIZ

The period for the registration of projects for this edition, to be held from the 13th to the 17th of March, 2023, finalizes on the 15th of October

Today the Malaga Film Festival has announced the call for applications for MAFF (Malaga Festival Fund & Coproduction Event), an event that is part of the Industry area MAFIZ (Malaga Festival Industry Zone) and that will be held from the 13th to the 17th of March, 2023 in the framework of the 26th Malaga Film Festival.

MAFF is organised by the Malaga City Council and the Malaga Film Festival in collaboration with the ICAA (Institute of Cinematography and Visual Arts of Spain), the CAACI (Conference of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities of Ibero-America), IBERMEDIA, FIPCA (Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers) and EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs).

Projects can be registered online until the 15th of October 2022 through the MAFIZ website. The projects that are selected will be announced at the beginning of December 2022.

MAFF is conceived as a space for communication that facilitates dialogue between producers of Latin American and European films, as part of a co-production and market encounter. It is a setting that favours the artistic growth of participating projects, international coproduction, the network of contacts and that increases their possibilities of financing. MAFF brings together in a single venue, the city of Malaga, and in an unprecedented manner, the main international co-production financing funds that exist at the international level.

MAFF aims to collaborate with the development of an Ibero-American cinematography with content that raises social awareness and that prompts reflection and generates inclusive and collaborative societies. This is done by means of the sections Social MAFF and MAFF Women Screen Industry, created at the last edition thanks to a collaboration agreement between the Malaga Film Festival and the Andalusian Association of Women of Audiovisual Media (AAMMA by its acronym in Spain), the Association of Women Filmmakers and of Audiovisual Media (CIMA power station by its acronym in Spanish) and Women in O.V. (Mujeres en V.O.).

MAFF, which will celebrate its sixth edition in 2023, has the following objectives:

• To be the communication and networking platform of reference, where the persons in charge of the funds can meet and learn about projects in their early stages of development.

• To promote innovation in the business and production models of new feature films with a potential for international co-production for their future distribution and marketing in different markets and by means of different methods.

• To provide high level creative, economic and financial advice to generate viable and quality audiovisual projects that facilitate their insertion in the world market and thus contribute to generating international presence.

• To include the new players of the audiovisual industry in our platform and create new content to reach the new audiences, who become a part of our permanently growing audiovisual activity.

The projects selected in MAFF 2023 will benefit from a two month grant for training in the areas of creation and production, and will compete for the following prizes:

• Bolivia Lab Prize to participate in the production laboratory to be held in July 2023 in the city of Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
