Málaga Short Corner is a space within
MAFIZ / Festival de Málaga dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of short films. Málaga Short Corner is held between
10 and 12 March within the framework of MAFIZ. It brings together Spanish and international professionals (filmmakers, producers, distributors, festivals, platforms) linked to the short film industry, providing a meeting and business environment that aims to offer new opportunities for the production and dissemination of this type of work.
Málaga Short Corner organises different Market Screenings exclusively for professionals, where both recent short films and works in development (wip) are screened, promoting the selection of these works for prestigious Spanish and international festivals.
It also includes a series of industry activities in the form of masterclasses, talks and round tables, aimed at training, reflection and analysis of current issues of interest to both experienced professionals and younger talent looking to join the film industry.
Both the activities and the screenings take place in the Sala Cajamar in Malaga. Works selected for the Market Screenings will also be included in an online video library, where they will be accessible during the weeks following the Festival de Málaga for those accredited to Málaga Short Corner.
Málaga Short Corner also has another space at the NH Hotel, Mafiz's headquarters, to hold presentations, exhibitions and more specific promotional events. An ideal moment to find out first-hand about the most important and brilliant new developments and initiatives in the short film sector. This venue also offers Málaga Short Corner accreditation holders the possibility of organising private meetings that contribute to achieving their objectives at this event.
As a novelty, Málaga Short Corner incorporates two new projects.
Festival de Málaga, MAFIZ and
Málaga Short Corner, together with RTVE, announce the
RTVE / Málaga Short Corner Talent Award for the Best Fiction Short Film Project. This initiative promotes the production of short films, providing its winners with resources that contribute to producing a work in this format.
Those interested in participating in this competition should submit their entries via the Festhome platform (
https://filmmakers.festhome.com/festivals#9951) the script of the short film, as well as a production and direction report. Five finalists will attend Málaga Short Corner to present their project in a pitching session in front of a professional jury. The winning project will be chosen from this last phase and will receive 15,000 euros to produce this work, which will be premiered in Spain at the next edition of the Festival de Málaga.
On the other hand, the Festival de Málaga, MAFIZ and Málaga Short Corner, together with Festhome, are organising the
first edition of Ibershorts, to award and promote Ibero-American short films. The initiative also involves 20 Ibero-American festivals, each of which has proposed two nominees for the award. From the 50 candidates, 15 works have been pre-selected to be included in the Málaga Short Corner video library.
Finally, five works will be nominated for the award. These short films will be screened in cinemas during the Festival de Málaga, with the presence of the filmmakers and representatives of the festivals that have proposed them. The Biznaga de Plata for Best Iberoamerican Short Film will be awarded to one of the nominated works at a gala of its own.
