SPANISH SCREENINGS ON TOUR / Call

INTRODUCTION
As part of the 'Spain, Audiovisual Hub of Europe' Plan and with funding for Component 25, of Spain Audiovisual Hub of the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience, Spanish productions will be promoted through the Spanish Screenings On Tour initiative, which will hold its second edition in Rome, Italy, in the framework of the International Audiovisual Market MIA MARKET from 9 to 13 October, 2023. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

During the five days of MIA MARKET, the Spanish audiovisual industry will have a prominent presence in one of the world's strategic markets with international buyers, sales agents, decision makers, investors, festival programmers, production companies and industry professionals.

A unique opportunity with which we seek to boost the internationalisation of Spanish audiovisual productions, in all genres and formats and at various stages of development and production.

We invite Spanish audiovisual companies to submit their projects and films in each of the 5 MIA MARKET categories in which they can participate, as part of Spanish Screenings On Tour, before the deadline of the call.

The activities that will take place at MIA MARKET will be grouped into five categories:

I. SPANISH SCREENINGS SHOWCASE: projects in development. A maximum of 5 projects will be selected. Call for Spanish feature film projects of Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation or Series, which are in a phase of development or financing. The selected productions will make a presentation of the project, and will take part in one-to-one meetings organized by MIA MARKET. CALL CLOSED ON 25 JULY 2023

II. SPANISH WIP: projects in post-production phase. 4 titles will be selected. This activity is designed to encourage the completion of Spanish films in the post-production phase and thus foster their promotion and distribution. The selected productions will show a 10 minute cut and make a short presentation of the project in English for buyers and decision makers accredited at MIA MARKET. III. REMAKE DAY: films with potential for adaption. 5 titles will be selected. A day devoted to this sales format which is growing for Spanish audiovisuals, open to prominent international professionals accredited at MIA MARKET.

IV. MARKET PREMIERES: Space prepared by MIA MARKET for screenings of productions not premiered in any other international market. These exclusive sessions offer sales agents a strategic opportunity to showcase new films and introduce them to international buyers.CALL CLOSED ON 25 JULY 2023

V. NEXT FROM SPAIN - COMIN'UP: MIA MARKET section where Spanish sales agents will be able to present screenings of trailers, reels or film footage of their films in production planned for release in 2024 onwards.CALL CLOSED ON 25 JULY 2023

In addition, companies and production companies selected to participate in the Spanish Screening On Tour at MIA MARKET will have access to a space called Industry Club, an exclusive service for Spanish companies accredited at MIA MARKET.

There will also be an online space designed to increase visibility for films, series and projects that are selected for Spanish Screenings On Tour, which will be able to participate in the Spanishscreenings.online platform. Once the selection has been confirmed, the Spanish Screenings On Tour Organising Committee will send an invitation to register the works on Spanishscreenings.online


REQUIREMENTS OF THE CALLS

The different participation and presentation categories and conditions for films and projects in Spanish Screenings On Tour 2023 are outlined below.

I. Requirements to participate in SPANISH SCREENINGS SHOWCASE

Call for Spanish feature film projects of fiction, non-fiction, animation feature films and series, which are in the development or financing phase and meet the eligibility criteria of the MIA MARKET Co-Pro market section.

  • Before registering your project, please read the MIA MARKET Co-Pro Guidelines.

  • The organising committee of Spanish Screenings On Tour will select a maximum of 5 projects in the development phase for this section.

  • Projects must be in the process of seeking funding, co-producers, sales agents and/or distributors.

  • Projects may be submitted by Spanish legal entities or natural persons. The projects must be Spanish or co-productions with a Spanish majority shareholder.

  • Projects that are in the shooting or post-production phase will not be accepted

  • 7-minute pitch session per project: representatives of each project will have the opportunity to pitch their project in English to international industry professionals attending the event.

  • Projects open to international co-production, specially Europe, will be taken into account in the selection process.

  • Priority will be given to projects which have secured at least of 25% of the budget and to projects that are potentially interesting for the international market and meet MIA MARKET's eligibility criteria

  • Projects which have been selected for previous editions of Spanish Screenings On Tour and Spanish Screenings Content will not be accepted.

  • Projects that have not participated in other international markets will be particularly valued

  • Only projects that have submitted all documents (registration form and required documents) by the deadline will be taken into consideration.

  • Only projects that guarantee the presence of the main producer at the market will be considered.

  • Each project will receive a professional accreditation for MIA MARKET 2023.

  • The selected projects will have a space for meetings at the Spanish Screenings On Tour stand (Industry Club) at MIA MARKET.

  • Aesthetic proposal (maximum 1 page)

  • Distribution and marketing plan


Additional documents for series:

  • Story line of 3 episodes (maximum 500 characters per episode)

  • If it is based on a pre-existing work, attach a note indicating the works' exploitation rights

  • Project dossier

  • Treatment of plot (maximum 10 pages)

  • Summary of the budget

  • Financing plan in euros (including secured funding and its sources)

  • Letter of motivation from the producer (maximum 2 pages)

  • A project progress sheet describing the phase of production of the project and the timeline to be followed.

  • Document signed by the director and producer substantiating the works' copyright

  • Aesthetic proposal (maximum 1 page)

  • Distribution and marketing plan.


II. Requirements to participate in SPANISH WIP

  • For this section, the Spanish Screenings On Tour organising committee will select a maximum of 4 feature films in the post-production phase.

  • The cut to be shown at MIA MARKET must be no longer than 10 minutes. The presentation will include a 3-minute on-site pitching session in English, prior to screening.

  • The film has not been finished and will be released after MIA MARKET 2023.

  • The film does not yet have a sales agent.

  • It is essential that the main producer of the film attend in person.

  • The materials for the website and the MIA MARKET catalogue, as well as the screening copies of the films, must be sent within the deadlines and in the formats
    indicated by Spanish Screenings.

  • Audiovisual works must be Spanish. In the event that the audiovisual work is an international co-production, a contract or deal memo must be provided substantiating the percentage of participation of each country and acknowledgement of the co-production

  • Films must have embedded subtitles in English in the version of the work to be presented in this context

III. Requirements to participate in REMAKE DAY

  • The Spanish Screenings On Tour organising committee will select a maximum of 5 works (feature films or series) with potential for adaptation.

  • Priority will be given to works whose remake rights are available for Italy and Europe.

  • Priority will be given to works with greater international potential for the sale of remake rights, this time in the European market

  • Priority will be given to works not made prior to 2019.

  • Only Spanish works will be accepted, whether feature films or series

  • The physical presence at the presentation of the international sales agent or, failing that, of the film's main production company, is essential.


To register films in REMAKE DAY you must use the following form

IV. Requirements to participate in the MARKET PREMIERES section:

  • Before registering your film, please read the MIA MARKET Market Screenings Guidelines.

  • Spanish Screenings will select a maximum of 4 feature films for this section.

  • Only unreleased Spanish films represented by their Spanish production company or sales agent will be selected.

  • Only films produced as of January 2023 will be eligible.

  • Only films that are not available on streaming platforms will be selected

  • Only feature films that have not been screened in other national and international markets (International Market Premieres) will be selected. Essential requirement.

  • MIA MARKET web and catalogue materials, as well as screening copies of the film(s), must be submitted in accordance with the MIA MARKET requirements. The physical presence of the international sales agent or, failing that, of the film's main producer at the Market Premieres screenings is essential.

  • The Spanish Screenings On Tour organising committee seeks to give adequate visibility and opportunities to all audiovisual works. The selection criteria for the different categories will give priority to productions with great artistic value, with a high potential for international circulation, that are suitable for MIA MARKET, especially the most varied and appropriate ones for international sale. The objective is to represent the most independent and plural visions possible.

  • Given that there are only 4 slots available as agreed with the MIA MARKET organisation, one Market Premiere will be selected per company.

  • The selection committee's decisions are final

  • Registration of films does not imply their acceptance.

V. Requirements to participate in NEXT FROM SPAIN - COMIN'UP
This line is geared at Spanish sales agents, who will be able to show their Next from Spain (trailers, teasers, clips, reels, film footage) of their films planned for 2024 onwards to buyers and decision makers at MIA MARKET.

  • Before registering your project, please read the MIA MARKET Market Screenings & Comin UP Guidelines.

  • Up to 4 titles will be selected for this section.

  • It will consist of a presentation in English. Each company selected will have a maximum of 10 minutes to present its Next From Spain (catalogue of upcoming productions).

  • Trailers, teasers, reels and film footage of Spanish films planned to be released from 2024 onwards may be presented.

  • The physical presence of the international sales agent is essential.

  • The film should be scheduled for release no earlier than 2024.

  • Preference will be given to productions that have not been shown at festivals, markets or showcases prior to August 2023.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

  • Registration of projects and films is free of charge.

  • All selected films and projects and information on authorship will appear on the Spanish Screenings and MIA MARKET website and social media.

  • The information and images submitted will be used in MIA MARKET and Spanish Screenings promotional materials.

  • By accepting these terms and conditions, MIA MARKET and Spanish Screenings are authorised to reproduce and publish free of charge the graphic and audiovisual materials provided during registration on their social media and communication channels. Except teasers and materials-in-progress that cannot be shown to the general public.

  • Registration to submit a project or film implies acceptance of these regulations and the commitment to guarantee the presence of a representative at the event in case the project is selected.

  • Any circumstance not foreseen in these terms and conditions will be resolved by the organisers of Spanish Screenings On Tour.


SELECTION

  • A work group made up of representatives from Spanish Screenings, ICEX and ICAA will be in charge of selecting projects and films.

  • In order to provide visibility and opportunities for all audiovisual works, the selection criteria for the different categories will give priority to productions of great artistic value, as well as their potential for international circulation, their suitability for MIA MARKET, especially the most diverse productions, as well as those most appropriate for international sales or co-production, with the objective of representing the most independent and plural visions possible.

  • The organisation will contact the selected films and projects in August.


SUPPORT
The organisation of Spanish Screenings On Tour will pay for 1 airline ticket for the project/film's representative (1 person per film) and 3 nights of accommodation in a single room, breakfast included.

REGISTRATION
The deadline for registrations for Showcase, Remakes, Market Premieres and Next From Spain-Comin´UP expired at 23:59h GMT on July 25, 2023.

The deadline for SPANISH WIP has been extended until July 30, 2023 at 23:59h GMT.
