The Festival de Málaga will take five Andalusian scriptwriters to Montevideo as part of the -Entre Guiones- section of Ventana Sur

The Festival de Málaga, through its MAFIZ Industry Area, will take five Andalusian scriptwriters to participate in the -Entre Guiones- project, organised and developed by Ventana Sur, which will take place from the 2nd of December to the 6th of December 2024, in Montevideo (Uruguay). The goal of this collaboration between the Festival de Málaga and Ventana Sur is to promote Andalusian talent at the event through its scriptwriters and their works, with the aim of strengthening and consolidating Ibero-American film in the international market.
This initiative is sponsored by the Consejería de Turismo y Andalucía Exterior with the collaboration of the Andalucía Film Academy, which represents the Andalusian audiovisual sector.
-Entre Guiones- is an initiative created by Ventana Sur to give a diverse selection of screenplays the opportunity to transcend borders and reach the international market. It is also a chance for producers and professionals from around the world to connect with the creativity of Ibero-America without third parties. In this way, -Entre Guiones- seeks to promote the talent of writers, the essential first step in any film production.
The Festival de Málaga joins this project and has selected, through a public call, five feature film scripts. During the five days of Ventana Sur, the Andalusian audiovisual industry will have a significant presence at one of the most strategic global markets, showcasing its work to international buyers, sales agents, decision-makers, investors, festival programmers, production companies, and industry professionals. This is a unique opportunity to boost the internationalisation of Andalusian audiovisual content and support the beginning of a film’s value chain: the screenwriters and their scripts.
The selected screenplays are:
- Al alba, by Fany de la Chica (Jaén). Triana is an Andalusian jazz singer living in New York. She performs in a Harlem club to make a living while dealing with a breakup and recording her first album. Her life changes when she is forced to return to her hometown after the death of her grandmother, “Mamá Lola”, a flamenco singer who was always her biggest support. Triana is named the sole heir to the family flamenco bar, which compels her to confront her complicated relationship with her mother and reconnect with her roots. Through flamenco, Triana embarks on a journey of reconciliation with herself and her past.
- Despedida de casada, by Pedro Pablo Picazo (Seville). Facing an imminent divorce, Sara’s friends decide to celebrate her farewell party in Mexico. A new life begins for her, leaving behind a nearly 30-year marriage, but not everyone is willing to let her go. What starts as a festive weekend takes a 180-degree turn when Rebeca, Sara’s daughter, arrives to defend her father and prevent her mother’s plans for divorce, causing Sara to question whether she should go through with it. But her daughter uncovers secrets from Sara’s past that she might have wished she never knew.
- Entrañas, by Amanda Ferrer (Almería). In 1910, Gádor is overwhelmed with distrust and fear upon the arrival of new inhabitants. Francisco, known as “El Moruno”, is diagnosed with tuberculosis and seeks treatment from the healer Agustina, who suggests he drinks the blood of a healthy child. El Moruno agrees, and along with the barber Leona and Julio, a young man with a mental disability, they capture Bernardo, a child. Manuela, El Moruno's daughter, follows them and witnesses the gruesome ritual. After the murder, the town hunts for the people responsible and condemns El Moruno, Agustina, and Leona. Gádor becomes forever marked by horror and the legend of “El Hombre del Saco.”
- La invasión de los Demonios Tristes, by Diego Cañizal Rallo (Jaén). Humanity has been wiped out by a zombie apocalypse. But Beru and Mechiiku, two children from an unconnected tribe in the Amazon, know nothing of this. They have heard stories about the “Sad Demons” who destroyed the jungle and were defeated by their ancestors. So, when the zombies arrive in the heart of the Amazon, they think it is the “Western man”: a being who devastates and consumes everything. After their tribe is annihilated, they flee, discovering the damage civilisation has caused to their jungle. Unaware that they are the last humans alive, they hold the last hope for the survival of our species.
- Novia Lucero, by Marcos del Río Sánchez (Córdoba). Sandra falls into a deep depression after her parents’ death. One night, following a heart attack, she has an apparition of a beautiful girl dressed in white, who is Luna, the moon in her human form. Every 28 days, Luna visits Sandra, and as time passes, Sandra falls deeper in love with her. Sandra’s brother, Sebas, worried about his sister’s supposed delusions, begins to investigate and uncovers a terrifying legend: Luna’s visits are a premonition of death, a sacrifice of one life for another. The same fate that took their mother’s life before she died...
