Twenty young talents from eleven countries will participate in Malaga Talent starting next Wednesday
The participants in this activity of MAFIZ, the Malaga Film Festival’s industry zone, will have an intense ten-day training program
The fifth edition of Malaga Talent, inspired by Antonio Banderas, Honorary President of the Malaga Film Festival, and which brings together young talents with the objective of providing them with tools to overcome creative barriers and foster professional collaboration, will start next Wednesday.
The twenty participants (listed at the end of this notice) come from eleven countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, Guatemala, Paraguay, Dominican Republic and Uruguay. During their 10-day participation in the Malaga Film Festival, they will have access to an intense training program with renowned professionals, enabling them to extend their network of contacts as they benefit from MAFIZ training sessions and activities.
Moreover, another objective of Malaga Talent is to enable participants to develop creative and professional connections, accompanied by four European and Latin American tutors who will give them personalized advice, as well as four masterclasses. Yolanda Barrasa (Spain) will speak about the authorial creative process, Constanza Arena (Chile) will speak about marketing, sale strategies and positioning; Paulo dé Carvalho (Brazil-Germany) will speak about coproductions (advantages and disadvantages) and festivals and Anders Riis-Hansen (Denmark) will speak about the conception and development of a project.
An indication of the program’s success is the participants’ careers: Ilén Juambeltz presented his short film Antes de Madrid in Generation Kplus section of the recent Berlin Film Festival, and Jesús Choya and Rafael Martínez Calle, who took part in Malaga Talent 2022, will compete with their short film Velar in the Official Short Film Section of the Malaga Film Festival.
In addition, the program includes meetings with José Luis Rugeles, director of Rebelión, and with the team of Desperté con un sueño, which are participating in the Official Feature Film Section of the Malaga Film Festival, and with active professionals such as Iván Stoessel of Paramount Pictures, the Portuguese producer Pablo Iraola, Saioa Riba, who is in charge of industry at the San Sebastian Film Festival, and Andrés Bayona, director of BIFF (Bogota International Film Festival). There will also be a pitching workshop with Juan Morali.
Likewise, the young talent will attend the meeting of Carla Simón, winner of the Malaga Talent Award given by the Malaga Film Festival in collaboration with the newspaper La Opinión de Málaga, with the Director of the Malaga Film Festival.
