What type of films can be submitted for Malaga Work in Progress?
Málaga Work in Progress consists of two different initiatives, conceived to respond to the needs of the participating films and of their creators.
Málaga WIP España is designed to promote the completion of fiction feature films and documentaries in the final cut phase, ready for the post production process and that are seeking to ensure their international distribution. Six Spanish films will participate in the event.
The audiovisual projects must be submitted by Spanish production companies. In case an audiovisual project is an international coproduction, a contract or memo deal must be submitted to substantiate each country´s participation percentage.

. Málaga WIP Iberoamérica is designed to promote the completion of fiction feature films and documentaries in the final cut phase, ready for the post production process and that are seeking to ensure their international distribution. Six Ibero American films will participate in the event.
Audiovisual projects must be submitted by Ibero American production companies (Latin America and Portugal), registered as such with the Instituto de Cinematografía or similar bodies in the project´s its country of origin, whether trade entities or entities acknowledged as such.
When will we receive an answer from the Málaga Work in Progress Selection Committee?
Final decision will be published on the Mafiz website. The selected projects will be announced during the month of January 2022
A production company can submit more than one project?
Yes, a production company can enter a maximum of two projects, as long as these comply with all the regulations.
What defines the nationality of a film production?
It is defined by the nationality of the film director.
What are the steps of the selection process?
The process is divided in two steps:
Phase 1: Eligibility
Phase 2: Evaluation
Phase 1 - Eligibility
It will be verified that all the entries comply with the requirements in conformity with the terms & regulations.
Priority will be given to projects that haven´t been submitted previously to similar events organized by other festivals or markets.
Phase 2 - Evaluation
All the projects that comply with the aforementioned regulations will be evaluated by a team of experts. The evaluation will take into account both the production and the artistic content of the proposal.
The participating films will be selected by a committee of renowned experts.
The selection will have as main objective to foster the artistic and creative talent of film directors. It will be also taken into account the possibilities and potential of the project to access the international market.
Is it possible to submit a film after the deadline has passed?
No, films entered after the deadline published on the open call will not be accepted.
