Sixteen Spanish and Latin American films in post-production will be presented at MAFIZ Malaga Work in Progress, the Festival de Málaga industry area
Four Chilean productions presented by FICVIÑA under the FICVIÑA Showcase label complete the section
The eighth edition of Málaga Work in Progress, the MAFIZ section for Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American films in post-production, has selected sixteen titles from six countries. FICVIÑA will also present four Chilean productions under the FICVIÑA Showcase label.
Films will be screened from 18 to 20 March in front of an audience of professionals - sales agents, festival programmers, international funds - with the aim of supporting their completion and fostering their international dissemination and promotion. The activity will conclude with project representatives pitching to potential partners on Friday 21 March.
The eight Spanish films include two from the Region of Murcia, the protagonist of the Territory section.
Eight Ibero-American productions will also be presented, including two from the Dominican Republic, the guest country of this year's edition.
As an example of the relevance of Málaga WIP, the Feature Films Official Competition includes Sara Fontova's Jone Baztutean (Jone a veces) - winner of the Aracne Digital Cinema Award in 2024 - and Pablo Maqueda's participation in the initiative this year with Caro Nanni (Querido Nanni), who competed in 2023 with La desconocida in the Feature Films Official Competition.
Málaga WIP is part of Spanish Screenings Content 2025, an event designed as an international promotional platform with the main objective of promoting Spanish cinema sales and which celebrates its 19th edition in 2025 as the only official market for the sale and promotion of Spanish cinema.
Málaga WIP is organised by Malaga City Council and Festival de Málaga in collaboration with the ICAA (Spanish Institute of Cinematography and Visual Arts), CAACI (Conference of Ibero-American Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities), IBERMEDIA and FIPCA (Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers).

Two juries will decide the winners of the Festival de Málaga Award, with €5,000 for a Spanish film and €5,000 for an Ibero-American film. The Málaga WIP Spain jury will be made up of director and editor Alejandra Almirón, Jana Wolff from EFM-Berlinale and Raúl Camargo from FICValdivia, while Paola Buontempo from Documenta Madrid, Marco Muhletaler from PUCP and Teresa Toledo from Casa América will make up the Málaga WIP Ibero-America jury.
The films will also be eligible for the following awards:
• Aracne Digital Cinema: image post-production services for one of the projects from Spain valued at €20,000.
• Chemistry: image post-production services for a film from Latin America. This prize is valued at USD $15,000.
• Cine y Tele: an advertising page in Cine y Tele magazine for one of the Spanish projects.
• E-28: musical composition and soundtrack production for a feature film. Prize worth USD $10,000.
• Latamcinema.com: prize consisting of an advertising page in LatAm Cinema magazine for a project from Latin America.
• Music Library: Music Library &SFX's ACORDE Music Supervision division will award a cash prize of €300, as well as a flat rate for a production valued at €300 for a project from Latin America and the same prize for a Spanish project.
• Rio Bravo: production of a trailer, promo or teaser worth €5,000. The award includes creativity, editing, conforming and post-production for cinema distribution.
• Sideral: €10,000 as a guaranteed minimum for the international distribution of the winning project.
• Yagán Films: a sound post-production award for a project from Spain worth €13,000. A sound post-production award for an Ibero-American project worth €13,000.
