222 Spanish productions will be presented at Spanish Screenings Content within the framework of MAFIZ, the Industry Area of the Malaga Festival

The international industry will be able to view 84 feature films in market screenings, 11 Works in progress, 62 titles in the Film Library and 65 short films

Spanish Screenings is framed within the 'Spain Audiovisual Hub of Europe', of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry for Digital Transformation and of Civil Service

The third edition of Spanish Screenings Content, one of the axes of Spanish Screenings XXL and part of MAFIZ, the Industry Area of the Malaga Festival, will take place from the 4th to the 8th of March under the slogan ‘Talent, diversity, opportunities’. It will present to the international industry 222 Spanish productions: 4 Market Premieres, 4 in Festival Official Selection (films selected by the Malaga Festival), 21 in Remake Day, 38 in Market Screenings, 7 in Neo Screenings, 19 in Next from Spain, 11 in Regional Film Hub Films, 42 in the Film Library and 11 works in progress, of which 5 in Animation Hub. In addition, 65 short films will be shown in Malaga Short Center.

Spanish Screenings Content, that this year celebrates its 18th edition, is the only official market for sale and promotion of Spanish cinema, whose main objective is to foster its sales. For the third consecutive year, it is strengthened by the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and the Ministry for Digital Transformation and of Civil Service, within the framework of ‘Spain Audiovisual Hub of Europe’.

That way, during the four-day event, buyers, sales agents, national and international distributors, VOD and SVOD platforms executives, festival organisers and producers attending the event will enjoy the latest Spanish production on spanishscreenings.online

The Spanish Screenings Content’s films, whose selection will be published soon on spanishscreenings.online, are presented in the initiative’s different sections:

- Market Premieres: 4 productions that haven’t been released on any international market, and will be presented by their directors and cast. In 2024, the selected titles are: Los pequeños amores / Little Loves, by Celia Rico Clavellina; Mamá, ahora mando yo / Mum, I’m the Boss, by Federico Moccia; Tratamos demasiado bien a las mujeres / We Treat Women Too Well, by Clara Bilbao; and Voy a desaparecer / I’m Gonna Disappear, by Coré Ruiz.

- Festival Official Selection: 4 titles that compete in the Festival Official Section and ZonaZine. The selected productions are: Guardiana de dragones / Dragonkeeper, by Salvador Simó and Jianping Li; Historia de pastores / Tale of Sheperds, by Jaime Puertas Castillo; La abadesa / The Abbess, by Antonio Chavarrías; and La hojarasca / The Undergrowth, by Macu Machín.

- Market Screenings: recently produced Spanish films with priority for the last trimester of 2023 and the first trimester of 2024 and with little circulation in international markets. Thirty-eight titles will be presented.

- Neo Screenings: screenings of 7 of the most innovative and daring films, to highlight the new forms of cinematographic expression that are being produced in Spain.

- Next from Spain: trailers or film footage of 19 films in post-production, due for release in 2024 and 2025.

- Regional Film Hub: a platform for the promotion and dissemination of the cinematography of the different Autonomous Communities, in which their film institutes will present 11 titles whose development and production they have supported.

- Remake Day: 20 titles eligible to sell remake rights. In addition and as novelty this yea, under the label Remake Day Special, the Chinese remake of Campeones, will be screened followed by a discussion between its executive producer at Shanghai Aim Media, Xiaoyue Ryan and its sales agent, by Latido Films’ Antonio Saura.

- Film Library: 42 recent films, at the disposal of buyers, festival programmers and international accredited producers on spanishscreenings.online.

- Malaga Spanish WIP: a space designed for the completion of Spanish films in post-production, in which 6 films, to be announced soon, will be presented.

- Animation Hub: 5 works in progress of animation productions: El diario de Alicia / Alice’s Diary, by Diogo Viegas; El violinista / The Violinist, by Raul García and Ervin Han; Mariposas negras / Black Butterflies, by David Baute; Ikusezinak / The Invisibles, by Imanol Zinkunegi; and Norberto / Norbert, by José Corral Llorente.

- Malaga Short Corner: 65 short films will be presented to an audience made up of professionals and international festival representatives specialised in the genre.

Spanish Screenings Content is one of the four axes of Spanish Screenings XXL alongside Spanish Screenings On Tour, Spanish Screenings: Financing & Tech (San Sebastian) and Spanish Screenings 360. It consists of a programme of active actions throughout the year, which also includes a monthly podcast available on all platforms, and the future creation of a virtual platform for promotion and business.

‘Spanish Screenings XXL, an international market for Spanish audiovisual production’ is a project with the participation of the Ministry of Culture through the ICAA, the Ministry for Digital Transformation and of Civil Service, ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, the Malaga Festival and the San Sebastian Festival.
