The second edition of Spanish Screenings on Tour will travel to MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo, to take place in Rome from 9-13 October

The submission period for the selection of projects, WIPS and films is open and will close on 25 July

Spanish Screenings on Tour is one of the main initiatives of Spanish Screenings XXL and is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) to strengthen Spain’s role as Europe’s audiovisual hub

Spanish Screenings on Tour has chosen MIA – Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo for its second edition, to take place in Rome from 9-13 October. The call for entries is already open and closes on 25 July.
MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo is a market event based in Roma (Italy) at its ninth edition in 2023 from October 9th to 13th, organized by ANICA (Italian Association of Film, Audiovisual and Digital Industries) and APA (Audiovisual Producers Association), with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ITA-Italian Trade Agency, and with the contribution of Creative Europe - MEDIA. MIA is also supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy and Region Lazio. With a focus on European and international Animation, Doc & Factual, Drama and Film scenes, MIA offers a wide range of programs, featuring Co-Production Market and Pitching Forums, Content Showcases, Works in Progress, Market Screenings, Networking Activities and an impressive line-up of Conferences, tackling the hottest topics among industry insiders. MIA has gained interest from international professionals: decision-makers, distributors, networks and platforms discuss at MIA the opportunities and challenges of audiovisual production and distribution in today's international content paradigm.

Spanish Screenings on Tour is the hands-on version of ‘Spanish Screenings XXL. An international market for Spanish audiovisual production’, designed to boost and open new international opportunities for the Spanish audiovisual industry. The initiative travels to strategic territories where it conducts actions focused on the sale and promotion of Spanish audiovisuals. It is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) to boost Spain’s role as Europe’s audiovisual hub and is promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Sport through ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, the Malaga Festival and the San Sebastian Festival. Its cross-cutting topics are equality, diversity, transparency and sustainability.

At MIA Market, Spanish Screenings on Tour 2023 will present Spanish productions at different stages: Spanish Screenings Showcase for projects in development; WIP for those in post-production; and Market Premieres for completed films and Next from Spain - Comin'UP for trailers or teasers. Finally, films with the potential to sell remake rights will have their space at the Remake Day section.

The different Spanish Screening on Tour calls will be open from 11-25 July. The members of the Spanish Screenings on Tour organising committee will select the projects and films. In keeping with the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan fund policy of supporting diversity, care will be taken when making the final selection to ensure the inclusion of projects and films that reflect the diversity of subject matter, format and genre found in Spanish audiovisual production.

The activities to take place at MIA MARKET will be grouped into five areas:

SPANISH SCREENINGS SHOWCASE: a maximum of 5 developing projects will be selected from among fiction, non-fiction, animation feature films and series either at the development stage or which are looking for funding. The selected productions will pitch the project and attend one-to-one meetings organised by MIA MARKET. The projects must meet the criteria of MIA MARKET’s Co-Pro section. SPANISH WIP: 4 titles at the post-production stage will be selected. The activity is designed to promote the completion of Spanish films at the post-production stage and to foster their international distribution and promotion. The selected productions will show a 10 minute excerpt and give a brief pitch of the project in English to buyers at MIA MARKET. SPANISH REMAKE DAY: 5 films with adaptation potential will be selected. One specific day will be dedicated to this increasingly widespread Spanish audiovisual sales format, open to attendance by international professionals present at the MIA Market. MARKET PREMIERES:
a space for the screening of productions not yet released in any other international market. These exclusive screenings offer sales agents a strategic opportunity to show and present new titles to international buyers. 4 films will be selected. NEXT FROM SPAIN – Comin'UP: in the framework of the MIA, Comin’UP section, Spanish sales agents will be able to present trailers or teasers of films currently in production and with a release date for 2024. 4 groups of 10-minute trailers/teasers will be selected. In addition, Spanish Screenings on Tour will offer Spanish industry use of the Industry Club, an exclusive space for holding work meetings, promoting networking activities and holding the Industry Talks, at which professionals participating in the event will have the possibility to share their experiences and vision of the sector.

An online space will also be available on the spanishscreenings.online platform to give greater visibility to the films, series and projects selected for Spanish Screenings on Tour.

Spanish Screenings on Tour 2022 ran at Ventana Sur (Argentina, from 28 November-2 December 2022), the Latin America’s biggest market for audiovisual content, co-organised by INCAA and Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes, a must-attend event on the agenda of the sector. More than 1,300 professionals from 30 countries participated in the initiative’s different activities, thereby enabling the more than 100 people making up the Spanish delegation to increase their contact network and generate new business opportunities.
