Peru is the protagonist of Latin American Focus in MAFIZ, the Malaga Film Festival’s industry area
The event will present the country’s recent films, the talent that makes them possible and the possibilities of collaborating with its industry
On 15th March, Peru will receive the Silver Biznaga from the Francisco de la Torre, the Mayor of Malaga
Peru is the guest of honour of 26th Malaga Film Festival, at which it will be the protagonist of Latin American Focus of MAFIZ (Malaga Festival Industry Zone), with the objective of presenting recent films made in Peru, the talent that makes these films and the possibilities of collaborating with its industry. To top it all off, on 15th March the Peruvian delegation will receive the Silver Biznaga from Francisco de la Torre, the Mayor of Malaga.
Producers, directors, authorities and institutional representatives of the Andean country will come to Malaga with the objective of creating more favourable conditions to establish commercial and artistic collaborations and relations, promote business opportunities and the international presence of its cinema. At the same time, Peruvian productions and filmmakers will be present in the different sections of MAFIZ.
The projects entitled 4EBER, by Ximena Valdivia (Montaña Rosa Films), Gloria, by Sairah Josefina Choque (Llamkaq Warm Cine), La otra orilla, by Francesca Canepa (Splitfilms) and Misión Kipi, by Sonaly Tuesta (Ayni Producciones), will be presented at MAFF; Aida, by Alejandra Gómez (Conteo Regresivo Films), will be presented at MAFF Women Screen Industry; and Estados generales, by Mauricio Freyre (Estudio Rien, Tasio), and Punku, by Juan Daniel Fernández Molero (Tiempo Libre), will be presented at Malaga WIP Ibero-America. In addition, Nazaret Patricia Sánchez Vega will participate in Malaga Talent and Katya Zevallos Ynmenso in Hack Málaga.
Likewise, four projects by female Peruvian directors will be presented under the heading Warmi Lab: Cabeza de Toro, by Kandy Nataly Aures; Catorce, by María Jimena Calderón; Ukhu, by Sadeli Nina Contreras and Watukamunayki, by Gladis Flórez.
On 15th March, a series of meetings and professional activities will take place with the objective of creating a point of encounter and exchange between Peruvian professionals and the Spanish and international industry, finalising with the award of the Silver Biznaga.
Lastly, the Malaga Film Festival has programmed three recent films in the series Focus Peru, which will show the diversity and vitality of Peruvian cinema:
El corazón de la luna, by Aldo Salvini (2021)
Invasión Drag, by Alberto Castro (2020)
Un mundo para Julius, by Rossana Díaz Costa (2021)
Another objective of the Peruvian delegation will be to present their country as a destination for shooting films, bearing in mind that in recent years the number of international productions shot in Peru has grown, including scenes from the third season of the Netflix series The Queen of the South and the American super production Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which will be premiered in the near future.
Leslie Urteaga Peña, Minister of Culture of Peru, highlighted that “Peru’s participation in a major event like the Malaga Film Festival is a great opportunity to make our creativity visible and to promote it amongst the international community”

The Minister of Culture added that “many of the films and projects participating in the different sections of the Festival have the support of the Ministry of Culture, thanks to Economic Incentives, a policy that promotes the growth of the entire ecosystem for Peruvian film and audiovisual production ecosystem.”
Leslie Urteaga emphasised.that, "we invite all those attending the festival to rediscover our wonderful Peru during these days through film, because it represents us, our country, our knowledge and our diversity”
