MERCADOC.0 is a space for innovation in Ibero-American documentary production and the development of new business models that engage key stakeholders:
emerging digital platforms including social and news media, streaming platforms, broadcast networks.
The event, organized by Festival de Málaga and Culturia, is funded by the Ministry of Culture and the European Union - Next GenerationEU, and will take place within MAFIZ (Málaga Film Festival Industry Zone) from March 18 to 21, 2025.
Projects in the following genres may participate: Author Documentary, Social Media Documentary, Docu-Reality, and Investigative Documentary.
We are open to: Premium Factual, investigative, socio-political issues that can travel internationally, including the big genres of crime, sport, contemporary history and wildlife.
Up to 12 Ibero-American projects will be selected: 6 from Latin America and 6 from Spain and Portugal. These projects will receive a dedicated program of activities and access to financial support to facilitate their participation in MAFIZ, the industry zone of the Málaga Film Festival.
The project submission period will be open from
January 30 to February 14, 2025, both dates inclusive.
WHAT WE OFFER
MERCADOC.0 is designed to foster creative,
financial and technical innovation in documentary projects. We facilitate opportunities in co-production, distribution, and new business models at an international level. This event positions Málaga as a strategic hub for the Ibero-American documentary industry, bringing together leading professionals from the sector alongside key stakeholders from Ibero-America, such as digital platforms, as multimediamedia journalists and television networks.
In alignment with MAFIZ's editorial focus, we aim to continue serving as the gateway for the internationalization of new Ibero-American productions that generate significant interest among audiences and the global audiovisual market. Our purpose is to promote innovation in audiovisual content that is both compelling in its themes and viable in its production (strategy).
Additionally, the event marks a key step in establishing a dedicated documentary track within MAFIZ, with MERCADOC 2026 announced as the next major milestone in strengthening this initiative.
OBJECTIVES
- To promote innovation in business and production models for documentaries with international co-production potential, leading to distribution and commercialization across various markets through different channels
- To engage new stakeholders in the Ibero-American audiovisual industry and create content that resonates with diverse audiences
- To provide specialized training and mentoring for producers and directors in creative, economic, and financial areas to develop viable, high-quality audiovisual projects that can succeed in the international market
- To strengthen the Ibero-American documentary ecosystem by creating a premier networking space where industry professionals can build meaningful connections that support their professional development
