Málaga Short Corner, new section of Spanish Screenings Content, has already started. A selection of 60 short films will be screened, including fiction, comedy, terror and fantasy, LGTBIQ+, documentaries and animation, as well as Andalusian, Catalan and film school productions.
Thanks to the collaboration of ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, the event is attended by professionals, distributors, buyers and international niche festivals, including IndieCork Film Festival, PÖFF Shorts, Cannes Court Métrage, Busan International Short Film Festival, Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival, Short Waves Festival, amongst others.
All of them, together with the teams of the short films and other accredited professionals at MAFIZ, have the opportunity to attend a series of roundtables on subjects of interest for the sector, such as the path to professionalisation, distribution strategies, new exhibition spaces and the presentation of a circuit of catalogues of short films from the north of Spain.
The Malaga Short Corner selection combines the presence of young talent and renowned directors such as Juanjo Giménez, winner in 2016 of the Golden Palm for short film Timecode and nominated in 2017 to the Oscar for Best Short Film, who presents his new short film Mussol. In addition, students from different universities and film schools in Spain will also present their short films through the initiative 2cool4school, which is held in collaboration with ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, ICAA and the Ministry of Culture. The short films will continue their international journey at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival.
Spanish Screenings XXL, an international market for Spanish audiovisual productions, is part of the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience (PRTR) to enhance the role of Spain as the audiovisual HUB of Europe, and is promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports through ICAA and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through ICEX.
Spanish Screenings is the Spanish audiovisual internationalisation programme that was given a new impulse starting in 2022, taking another step forward in respect to diversity of content and generating new thematic sections with the vision of incorporating work aligned with new audiovisual narratives and highlighting the entire professional chain of Spanish audiovisual production.
Its new format Spanish Screenings XXL is thus an international market for Spanish audiovisual productions, a project that has grown in content and volume of activities to adapt to the new challenges of the audiovisual industry, in which the Ministry of Culture and Sports is involved through ICAA, as well as the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, the Malaga Film Festival and the San Sebastian Film Festival.
