MAFIZ, the Malaga Film Festival industry zone, cements its growth and expands its program

The objective is to promote areas for the exchange and circulation of information for accredited professionals and analyze the latest trends of the audiovisual industry professionals

MAFIZ, the Malaga Film Festival’s industry zone, set to cement its growth in 2023, includes networking activities and events to analyze the latest trends of the audiovisual industry, foster areas for the exchange and circulation of information amongst the accredited professionals, in this manner helping to provide them with tools to increase their business opportunities, their international presence, and lastly, to promote Spanish and Ibero-American cinema.

The training and networking activities organized by MAFIZ include, in addition to round tables, lectures and presentations, other noteworthy events such as talks and masterclasses on financing films in NFT format, the design of audiences for film projects, a workshop on urgent film narratives, a round table to discuss the sustainability of Ibero-American indie cinema without public policies, the presentation of international funds and independent Ibero-American films, and copyrights at the round table entitled “Lights & Law”.

MAFIZ is the framework chosen by entities of the audiovisual sector to present their projects and create areas for discussion, including amongst others CIMA, Ibermedia Next, the Cátedra FlixOlé-URJC de Cine Español, FECE, Dama, the SGAE Foundation, Spain Film Commission, EGEDA and Crea SRG, and the Institute for Cultural Development of the Canary Islands. There will also be an awards ceremony for the competition “Cuéntanos las historias que nadie cuenta” [Tell us the stories no one tells] of DAMA’s and Netflix Spain’s project Cambio de plano.

In addition to an informational talk on selective grants for the production of feature films, ICAA will offer the round table “El cine español: un salto adelante” [“Spanish cinema: a leap forward”], and Spain Audiovisual Hub will organize the round table “Dos años desde el lanzamiento del plan de impulso al sector audiovisual” [“Two years since the launch of the plan to boost the audiovisual sector”]. The complete program is available here.

On the other hand, MAFF, for which selected projects were announced in December last year, will also offer specific areas for the exchange of ideas and networking. MAFF has organized Learning and Training for the representatives of the selected projects. The activity consists of a series of training workshops that focus on the creative and production areas with the objective of giving tools to the producers and directors of the participating projects by means of individual tutorials, talks and master classes. This initiative began in February this year, and will finalize during the Malaga Film Festival with in person activities, including a round table on the sustainability of Ibero-American indie cinema, a talk on the presentation of international funds and networking activities.

MAFF is organized by the Malaga City Council and the Malaga Film Festival in collaboration with ICAA (Institute of Cinematography and Visual Arts of Spain), CAACI (Conference of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities of Ibero-America replica watches UK), IBERMEDIA, FIPCA (Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers) and EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs). MAFF has one single objective: to become the communication and networking platform of reference, where the persons in charge of the funds can meet and learn about cinematographic projects in their early stages.
