The second edition of Spanish Screenings Content, one of the axes of Spanish Screenings XXL and part of MAFIZ, the Malaga Film Festival’s industry zone, will be held between the 13th and the 16th of March with theme “Talent, diversity, opportunities” during which 195 Spanish productions will be presented to professionals of the international industry. The productions include 3 Market Premieres, 38 Market Screenings, 6 Malaga Festival Films, 17 Neo Screenings, 19 films in the Regional Film Hub, 35 in the Film Library, 15 in Next from Spain, 37 in Remake Day and 10 works in progress. In addition, the professionals will also have the opportunity to learn first-hand about 15 feature film projects.
Spanish Screenings Content, an event conceived as an international promotion platform with the main objective of promoting the sale of Spanish films, will be holding its 17th edition in 2023. One of the four axes of Spanish Screenings XXL, it is the only official market for the sale and promotion of Spanish cinema. In 2022, 650 professionals from 50 countries attended the event, having access to 163 films which totaled 1,600 viewings.
In the course of the four days of the market, international buyers, sale agents, national and international distributors, VOD-SVOD platform executives, festival programmers, digital creation platforms and producers will thus have access to the most recent Spanish productions. Moreover, Spanish Screenings will have a renovated spanishscreenings.online platform, the website of reference for sale agents, festival programmers, producers, international distributors, new platforms and other agents of the Spanish and international audiovisual sector, and which contains all the information regarding Spanish Screenings Content, its activities and the professionals involved.
The films and projects of Spanish Screenings Content will be presented in its different sections, as follows:
- Market Premieres: proyecciones de tres producciones no estrenadas en ningún otro mercado internacional, con la participación del talento artístico de las obras. Los títulos de 2023, firmados por tres directoras, serán Els Encantats / The Enchanted, de Elena Trapé, presentada por Latido Films; Los buenos modales / Good Manners, de Marta Díaz de Lope Díaz, presentada por Film Factory; y Marid(dos) / Co-Husbands, de Lucía Alemany, presentada por Filmax.
- Screenings: proyecciones para compradores y programadores de festivales internacionales de películas españolas de reciente producción, con prioridad para las películas del último trimestre del 2022 y primero del 2023 y con poco recorrido en otros mercados internacionales. Se presentarán 38 títulos.
- Neo Screenings: proyecciones de nuestro cine más innovador y arriesgado, en el que se ponen en valor las nuevas formas de expresión cinematográfica que se están originando en España. Se presentarán 17 títulos
- Next From Spain: trailers o film footage de 15 películas en post-producción a estrenarse en 2023 y 2024.
- Málaga Festival Films: proyecciones de mercado de 6 películas en competición de la Sección Oficial y ZonaZine del festival.
- Regional Film Hub: plataforma para la promoción y difusión de la cinematografía de las diferentes Comunidades Autónomas españolas, en el que sus institutos de cine de las Comunidades Autónomas presentarán 19 títulos cuyo desarrollo y producción han apoyado.
- Remake Day: 37 títulos susceptibles de comercializar derechos de remake, disponibles online.
- Film Library: 35 títulos a disposición exclusivamente de compradores y profesionales internacionales acreditados en la web spanishscreenings.online.
Además, también se da espacio a películas en postproducción y proyectos de largometraje en Málaga Spanish WIP y Spanish CoproForum y se da continuidad a la línea de trabajo iniciada en Spanish Screenings On Tour con Perspectives y Screamings:
- Málaga Spanish WIP: un espacio diseñado para impulsar la finalización de películas españolas en fase de post producción y fomentar su difusión y promoción, con estos cinco títulos.
Spanish CoproForum: six fiction and non-fiction feature films looking for coproduction. Diario de un infiltrado / Diary of an Undercover Agent won the Mafiz prize for Best Spanish Project at the Ciif Market 2022, and the other five have received development grants from the Malaga Film Festival:

The new activities and renovated content of this second edition of Spanish Screenings Content will be announced shortly, with complete information about Animation Day, at which five projects will be exclusively presented, Malaga Short Corner with 60 selected productions, Remake Day, Book Showcase and Spain Scorecom.
Spanish Screenings is the programme for the internationalisation of Spanish audiovisual productions that was given a new impulse in 2022 with a greater diversity of content, including new thematic sections and the vision to include work aligned with the new audiovisual narratives and also enhance the entire professional chain of Spanish audiovisual productions.
In consequence, its new format Spanish Screenings XXL is an international market for Spanish audiovisual productions, a project with more content and more activities adapted to the new challenges of the audiovisual industry, which benefits from the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture and Sports through the ICAA (National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones (Spanish Trade Commission), the Malaga Film Festival and the Festival of San Sebastian.
