Twenty young digital creators from Spain and Latin America will participate in the second edition of Hack MAFIZ Malaga, which is part of Spanish Screenings Content

The participants will benefit from tutorials and talks with representatives of technological companies, media agencies and platforms

Twenty young digital creators from ten countries are the finalists that have successfully completed the previous creative challenges and who will participate in the second edition of Hack MAFIZ Malaga, which is part of Spanish Screenings Content. During their stay in Malaga, they will be asked to create an audiovisual piece and will have the opportunity of receiving training and tutorials, and attending talks and round tables given and led by well-known experts from technological firms, media agencies and platforms.

The finalists (please see full list below) have been selected from amongst 2,200 participants from 15 countries who had to resolve three collaborative challenges between October 2022 and January this year. Seven of the creators selected are between the ages of 18 and 24, eleven are between 25 and 34, and two are older than 35.

During the Festival they will have to face the last challenge, centred on the concept “Malaga and love (in times of Artificial Intelligence)”. The participants, working in teams of 4, will have to produce an innovative, 2-minute long audiovisual piece using artificial intelligence tools to develop the concept and the aesthetics of the production. The results will be screened at the section’s closing ceremony on the 16th of March.

In addition, they will have the chance to benefit from training opportunities thanks to personalised tutorials offered by representatives of platforms, streaming services, technological firms and media agencies. As of today, representatives of 2btube, El Cañonazo, Enchufe TV, Etermax, FireSport, Flixxo, Google, IAB Argentina, Inter-American Development Bank, La Maldita, MarsendaTwitch, Twitter, VIS-Paramount, Sense of Wonder, Squarebox, YouPlanet, YouTube and ZAS Talent have confirmed their attendance at the event.

A series of talks and round tables with well-known experts of the audiovisual sector are also planned in the framework of Hack MAFIZ Malaga. The following round tables have already been confirmed: ‘The future of content, media and audiovisual audiences (and the role of creators and communities)’, ‘The difficulties of the ecosystem of creators from Latin America and the Caribbean in respect to professionalisation and the digital divide’ and ‘What are algorithms and what is their influence in the audiovisual industry?’

With Hack MAFIZ, the Malaga Film Festival addresses the audiovisual sector’s challenge of reaching new audiences that consume audiovisual content through many different channels and whose community identity requires a much more active dialogue on the part of content producers. This way, the Festival aims to find new areas in which to regenerate audiences and establish a dialogue with them and with the creators with which they identify. This is Hack MAFIZ Malaga’s principal objective: to offer a space to these new creators, to get to know them and see them in action, to enable them to coexist in an area of synergies with the different agents of the audiovisual industry.

The first edition of Hack MAFIZ Malaga was a big success, exceeding all of the organization’s expectations in respect to its objectives. 1,300 participants from many different countries, including Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Cuba, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Ecuador responded to the call for applications. Most of them were 18 to 24 years old (54%) and 25 to 34 years old (31%).

Digital creators bring innovation to content production and to the sphere of distribution and editorial positioning vis-a-vis their community. Knowing and sharing their experience and know-how opens a window onto a different and synergetic viewpoint with new business models based on social media. Portability, fragmentation, co-creation, collaboration, self-distribution, monetization and new narratives are key aspects, amongst others, of these new creators’ identity and of the event that will bring them together in Malaga.
