Málaga Docs will reflect on documentaries in Spain at the 26th Malaga Film Festival
The event, for which registration is underway, will be held on the 13th and 14th of March
Once again, the Malaga Film Festival Festival de Málaga will include Malaga Docs, this year having as subject of reference the publication of the collective book El documental en España. Historia, estética e identidad by Ediciones Cátedra and coordinated by Casimiro Torreiro and Alejandro Alvarado. Malaga Docs, a gathering specialised in the analysis and consideration of contemporary film documentaries, is one of the main events of the Festival’s industry area MAFIZ (Malaga Festival Industry Zone), which will be held on the 13th and 14th of March. Persons interested in participating in Malaga Docs can register through the system of credentials on the MAFIZ website.
This collective book aims to constitute an important contribution to the sphere of academics and of general information, and is the expression of Malaga Film Festival’s commitment to documentary film. It deals with the evolution of documentaries in Spain for more than a century from a historical and thematic perspective. This thorough review not only presents the necessary elements for the study of documentaries in Spain, but also for the recognition of the latest developments and trends of the extensive and diverse situation of non-fiction.
This edition of Malaga Docs seeks to supplement and celebrate the book’s presentation. With the title ‘En el espejo: una mirada compartida al cine documental en España’, it will focus on some of the book’s tenets and themes, including the aesthetic, identity and historial aspects that affect all of the event’s sessions, the philosophy of integration of profiles and geographies by which it was inspired, and the in-depth analysis of its principal industrial challenges to question the image we obtain from a joint and reflexive look at documentaries in Spain. The full programme is available at this link.
On the 13th and 14th of March, prominent filmmakers and researchers will come together at several round tables to share their experiences in the field of documentaries. As an event that focuses on documentary film, Malaga Docs has been held in Malaga for seven years, with the collaboration of the University of Malaga and the Centre for Ibero-American and Transatlantic Studies of the University of Malaga General Foundation.
