Àvia follows Montserrat Gispert Cruells, exiled from Barcelona at 7 during the Spanish Civil War. At 83, retired after a long career as an ethnobotanist, she reflects on her life with her grandson, the director, reflecting on her past in her “garden of memory.”
Rodrigo Imaz
Rodrigo Ímaz is a visual artist and filmmaker born in Mexico in 1982. A graduate of ENAP-UNAM and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, he also specialized in cinematography at CUEC. His multidisciplinary work, which encompasses drawing, sculpture, and installation, explores the tension between nature, culture, and the Anthropocene. He gained international acclaim with his debut short documentary Juan Perros, winner of the Best Documentary Short at the Morelia International Film Festival and selected for the Semaine de la Critique at Cannes. He recently directed the film Àvia, the garden of memory.
