Fung Hotel

Director Carolina Fung
Producer Sofía Meza Herrera
Countries Costa Rica

Synopsis

Carolina, the director, uses a fantastical portal to connect with her childhood self and reconstruct her Chinese migrant grandparents' old hotel. The two of them embark a journey together to Costa Rica's Limón, in search for answers to keep the legacy of Chinese-Caribbean migration alive in the collective memory. Through a nostalgic child-like lens, we are transported through a digital portal of fantasy, blurring the lines of non-fiction, fiction and video-like animation. This journey invites us to reimagine how both memories of childhood and migration re-construct places and people that no longer exist, all while portraying the director's experience as a Costa Rican-Chinese child growing up surrounded by both cultures.
