Synopsis

1937. Karmele and her family take refuge in France, after being forced to flee their home because of the Spanish Civil war. There, Karmele is contacted by the Basque cultural embassy in exile, whose aim is to fight the war using music and dance.

Asier Altuna Iza

Asier Altuna is a Basque filmmaker born in Bergara in 1969. After studying in Andoáin and Venezuela, he worked as a technician before making his directorial debut with the short film Txotx alongside Telmo Esnal. He gained widespread recognition with his first feature, the hit comedy Aupa Etxebeste!, which won the Youth Award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. His solo work includes the documentary Bertsolari and the acclaimed drama Amama, winner of the Irizar Award. His most recent feature film is Karmele.
