Genre Documentary

Synopsis

Afro-Panamanian musicians descending from the Anglo-Francophone Caribbean—brought to Panama as labor for the mega-constructions of the Transatlantic Railroad and the Panama Canal—invite us on a journey to their roots. It is a story built on slavery, forced labor, segregation, and the religious beliefs that sustained their education, fueled their liberation, and inspired their musical creations. These are accounts of a successful trajectory that has etched their names into the birth and evolution of Jazz, proving their vital importance to the genre from its genesis to the present day.
