VIDEOCLUB 2001

Director Guillermo Polo
Producer Victoria Pérez de la Cruz
Spain

Synopsis
Mila, a disenchanted woman in her thirties, returns to her late father’s old video store intending to sell it. When she reopens it one last time, she reconnects with the neighbors and cinephiles who still gather there, clinging to a place that was more than a business: a space for conversation and community. Through them and the films lining its shelves, Mila confronts her father’s emotional legacy and the memory of a time when sharing cinema also meant sharing life.

Objectives to be achieved
The main objective of our participation is to establish strategic connections that can help Videoclub 2001 grow at a key stage of its development. We aim to identify potential co-production partners, both nationally and internationally, as well as to start conversations with distributors and sales agents willing to support the project from an early phase. We see Málaga as an ideal environment to build alliances that strengthen the film’s financing, expand its international reach, and help define a solid exploitation strategy aligned with its author-driven yet accessible approach.

Co-production´s interesting countries
We are particularly interested in co-producing with Latin American countries, as well as Portugal and France, due to their cultural, linguistic, and cinematic proximity to the project. These partnerships would strengthen the film’s Ibero-American dimension and provide access to international funds such as Ibermedia, Creative Europe MEDIA, or Eurimages. Moreover, these territories have a strong tradition of supporting auteur-driven cinema and a festival and distribution network that aligns well with the type of story Videoclub 2001 aims to tell.
