Synopsis
"Je vous salue, Peru" follows the traces of a little-known journey Jean-Luc Godard made to Latin America in the 1950s, exploring his family connections in Peru: a cousin who became president, and a German uncle who led medical expeditions in the Amazon. The film portrays a mysterious voyage that intertwines archive, memory, and the present to explore how images construct power, resistance, and ways of inhabiting history through cinema.

Objectives to be achieved
First, we are looking to connect with potential European producers interested in South American projects. As the film is based on archives and travel, international co-production would occur organically. Part of the shoot will take place in Germany, where technical crew will also be hired. The 16mm processing will be done in European labs, as well as the acquisition of archival material in the Netherlands. All this reinforces the film’s international character.
In addition, we aim to open up to new markets by connecting with sales agents and distribution partners who can accompany the film through festivals and its future commercial release. We are also interested in the visibility and awards offered by MAFIZ.
Finally, we seek to strengthen the project - its treatment and production design -through specialized mentorships and workshops.
Co-production´s interesting countries
We are looking for a co-production with Germany and/or Spain. Germany is a key country to our project due to our need to access the Bundesarchiv and to film in cities like Kiel and Berlin, where Máxime Kuczynski studied and worked. Furthermore, this collaboration will allow us to apply to the World Cinema Fund Classic, which would strengthen our financing strategy. Spain, on the other hand, is a strategic territory given that the producer is currently living there and we’re interested in establishing a collaboration with the Spanish film industry. France and the Netherlands are also connected to the project, as both hold archives we need to acquire. Establishing contact with arthouse production companies there would therefore be strategic.
