The Living and the Ducks

Director José Luis Isoard Arrubarrena
Producer Paloma Petra
Mexico

Synopsis
The return of the enigmatic Doña Bruna to Los Saucos reveals a supernatural power in duck manure: its smoke can return the dead to life. But the initial euforia soon turns to chaos, as the deceased return with old wounds, secrets, and a femicide that can no longer be ignored. The fragile miracle is cut off by Polo, a petty businessman, unleashing a collective rage from having to mourn their loved ones for a second time.

Objectives to be achieved
We hope to connect with international producers and sales agents who share our interest in socially engaged cinema with a touch of dark humor. Our goal is to secure strategic partners that can contribute to the financial scheme, expand the film’s artistic scope, and guarantee its visibility at major festivals and markets.

Co-production´s interesting countries
We are particularly interested in European partners, especially from Spain, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, given their strong schemes for co-productions and access to world-class expertise. The director holds both Mexican and Spanish nationality, which makes Spain a natural and strategic partner for this project. There is also a minor character that is Spanish, but we could easily expand their role to fit a coproducer’s need. We are open to key creative positions such as production design, editing, sound design, and music.
